NSOF is a not-for-profit professional association dedicated to advancing kidney health in both Fiji and the Pacific region and is made up of health professionals committed to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease. The Nephrology Symposium has been held annually since 2015, bringing together doctors, nurses, students and other allied health professionals who work with patients with kidney disease around the Pacific region. The symposium’s purpose is for education, training, networking and collaboration.

Kidney failure is an increasing public health challenge across the Pacific, driven by rising rates of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, while access to kidney replacement therapy, such as dialysis and kidney transplantation, remains limited in many countries. Several Pacific Island nations are now establishing dialysis services for the first time, creating strong regional demand for shared learning and capacity building. The 2026 Nephrology Society of Fiji Conference, themed “Strengthening Capacity and Care: Advancing Kidney Replacement Therapy in the Pacific,” will provide a vital regional platform to share practical, sustainable approaches to developing dialysis and transplantation services, drawing on Fiji’s experience and fostering collaboration among clinicians, nurses, policymakers, and industry partners to support safe, equitable, and locally appropriate kidney care across the Pacific.
